Sequencers(?) vs editors

I don't quite understand a fundamental aspect of this whole process: what's the difference between programs like Cubase, Logic, Cakewalk and programs like Cool Edit, Wavelab, and Vegas Pro. My inderstanding is that the first group is sequencers? and the second is editors. Can't the first group edit? Can't the second record and sequence midi etc.?

There's alot of overlap, but basically CW, Logic, Cubase, all allow for MIDI sequencing and audio recording. Vegas is audio only, I think. I use CW, so can't address the others all-in-ones, but CW can only do limited audio editing, so it links to an outside editor, like Wavelab, Sound Forge or Cool Edit for more in depth stuff. Some of these editing programs also have limited multi-track recording capabilities, but no MIDI sequencing functionality that I know of. Make sense?

Thanks. I figured those programs would have extensive editing capabilities as well for their high price. I guess I thought they were all in one type programs.
