SB Platinum and front line in???

Hello, does anybody have opinions on the SB Platinum "idrive" drive bay thingamajiggy. I was wondering if i should plug my mackie into the front unit with a 1/4" jack or should i plug directly into the soundcard line in on the actual soundcard? it seems that pluging into the front jack would make for a longer signal path and also that line in volume nob sounds like it introduces a lot of noise. thanks...

Hmmmm haven't used the Platnum card, but on one of my PCs I have a small mixer (Behringer 802) plugged directly into the line-in jack on a SB Live value, and that combination seem to be pretty quiet. I will add that if you do this you will want to be careful not to run the wire alongside any other wires (the usual rats behind every PC) or you may indeed pick up some noise.
