sample rate change causes "digital distortion"

system info:
ableton live v8
windows 7 professional x64
lynx L22 card

issue only happens when i change ableton's resolution from 24bit/48khz to 24bit/96khz.

at 96khz, i get a bunch of "digital noise"
this is the type of noise i associate with a bad video driver. but, my video card is brand new, up to date drivers. and the fact that there is no noise at 48khz means there's likely not an issue with the video card - it's with ableton or my hardware

the noise ("digital distortion" is pretty accurate) happens by just playing back tracks. No noise when playback is stopped.
probably important ----> Noise increases DRAMATICALLY when moving the vertical scroll bar, etc.

Any ideas guys? Kind of at a loss here. Need to record at 96khz, otherwise it wouldn't matter much...

Thanks!

Maybe your sound card's buffer is simply too small? As we explained in your other thread, there's no benefit to recording at simple rates higher than 48 KHz.
