Retake/Overwrite Function on Marantz PDM620MKII

I'm toying with the notion of getting a Marantz PMD620 MKII handheld recorder. One of the features that caught my eye was what they refer to as the Retake function, which allows a cut-in (a.k.a. punch-in) at any point in a recording and take it from there. The example given in the manual shows what happens when you record past the end of the original take, but I'm interested in how the recorder acts when cutting into a recording at some arbitary point and stopping before the end of the original has been reached. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Say I have a recording 10 minutes long and I start the re-take 2 minutes into that recording, record for say 5 minutes and stop (seven minutes have now elapsed since the beginning of the original). Will it retain the last 3 minutes of the original and leave it at the end of those 7 minutes (like an alanogue tape recorder would), or just throw out whatever leftover recording there is?
