pops and hisses on audiophile 2496

All of a sudden my computer pops and clicks whenever sound is played.

I am running Windows XP and have an m-audio audiophile2496 soundcard. It's been working fine up until now. I am running Cakewalk Hiome Studio XP2004, but the sound is awful on everything, even system sounds. I even updated my soundcard software but no luck.

Anybody know what this is?

THanks for any help you can give.

Did you install any new software? Get a virus/spyware? Do a Windows "update"? Lower your DMA buffer size, or change any other settings in the Audiophile control panel?

Something must have changed....

I can't recall anything that I did. I mean I have automatic upodates happening regarding Windows XP and my Virus programs. But I've always had them running.

If you switch to a higher latency setting, or increase the DMA buffer size, does the problem go away?

I suppose it's also possible that WinXP changed your IRQ's around behind your back. Can you find out what IRQ your Audiophile is on, and is it shared with anything else?

IncreasedDMA and latency as high as it could go(2048) and still ng.

THere are no IRQ conflicts.

I am going to delete and reinstall the driver and see if that resolves the issue.

THanks.
