pluggin guitar into computer

i too have a p3 733 and the sb live with digital out...my question is, can i plug my guitar into my b.k. butler tube driver then into my mic input on the soundcard without causin dammage, not sure about all the volts and so on.
i tried pluggin it in directly but it doesn't work like the mic...

Don't know what a BK Butler tube driver is, but anyway. If it outputs a line level signal then plug it into the line in on your SB Live! If your not getting a good signal from the output of your tube device into the SB, then I suspect a setting is wrong on the software side, or this BK unit is not outputing enough signal, i.e. it's not a preamp(or enough of one).
