heres my issue: my monitors have a loud noise.. kind of a hum but more static like... im have a presonus firestudio tube... an imac and yamaha hs 80's... when the computer falls asleep the presonus disengages and all is quiet.
 
Are you monitors shielded?

Computers emit all kinds of nasty shit...if your monitors are right next to it, then that could be the issue.
Also...it might be the audio connection from the computer to the monitors...it may be some sort of grounding issue.

You just have to experiment and track it down.

im using firewire from the interface to imac... 1/4" speaker cables on the monitors...its very loud and erratic... i will try a few things.
 
I'm assuming the monitors are self-powered.

If so...and you are using basic "speaker cables"...then that's going to be an issue.
Speaker cables are not shielded.
If the monitors are self-powered, you would want Line/balanced cables...which would be TRS 1/4".

What are you using?
 
Nope...those are not gonna work.

(You do have self-powered speakers?)
Get balanced Line cables... TRS 1/4"
