new mixer, small problem...

I just got my new Alesis Studio 32 mixer from a guy on ebay, and apart from a bit of dust it looks great (AND he threw in an Alesis NanoCompressor because he couldn't find the manual... great seller!)

HOWEVER:
It has that "I am a smoker" funky smell to it.
Are there any precautionary steps I need to take to clean it?
It's ony 7 months old, so at least he wasn't smoking around it for years, right?

What materials do you folks use to clean your consoles?

And could someone address the smoke question?

Jimmy, I have that same mixer. The manual used to be available for downloading in PDF format from the Alesis website. Check there - if you can't find it, I'm pretty sure I have the file and could email it to you.

As for cleaning it, I would use just a damp rag. Metal should not pick up any oders, so if it still smells after cleaning it the reek is probably coming from inside the mixer. I would not suggest opening it up to clean it.
