As of now, I have a motu 828, a g3 400 imac with cubase 5, and joemeek vc1q preamp. I'm interested in recording live drums and scratch guitar/bass tracks all at the same time--we're talking about up to 16 tracks, at the very least 8. For those who don't know, the motu 828 has 8 analog ins/outs (with only two preamps) and 8 digital (ADAT lightpipe) ins/outs. So I need to get 8 to 16 preamps AND an AD converter(s) that will turn 8 analog channels into ADAT lightpipe. Any suggestions? i'm looking at between $1000-3000 bucks for 16 preamps/8 converters. but i'd be interested to about options that are more or less too. thanks.

On a side note, what do you think about the motu 828? what do you think about the joemeek vc1q? how about cubase 5? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm curious..... Thanks for the help,

Why not just use more 828's and get a nice mixing console for the mic pre's?

Motu boasts that up to 4 828's can run on ONE 400mb/s firewire bus.
