Motu 896 Expansion

Hi there, I use Logic, and am just starting to mix outside the box, having bought a nice little 16 track analogue desk, but my Motu 896mk1 only has 8 analogue outputs, and I'd like to have the full 16 to mix extensively with. What would be the best way to go about getting this?

The 896 has two firewire ports, so I reckon I could attach one of the following, but I am only guessing, should I get like:

- A Motu expander like the 24 i/o or the 1224?
- Another Motu interface like the 828?
- Some kind of mystical ADAT machine?

I don't really have that much money, so I think I'll be ruling out getting anything majorly major..

Any help/suggestions/general wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Felix

Get a behringer ada8000. Cheap and cheerful.

It's one of the few behringer units that gets pretty good rep, for it's conversion anyway.

On a plus side, you've got 8 extra cheap preamps if you need em for tracking.

adat lightpipe m' friend.

it'll give you 8 balanced line outputs in place of your adat out port.

mmmm, thank you so much for this much needed information. I think I will go out (stay in) and buy an ada8000 and a couple'o'lightpipes. woop!

sweet. i'm gonna get one myself to add eight ins to my 828 mk2.

The preamps don't get a good rep, but the converter reviews are surprising.

There are a few shootouts on GS and places like that if you wanna be sure, but for £100, you couldn't really go wrong.
