Making the best out of what I have - using an ASUS eee

I have an ASUS eee netbook with a 900 mhz celeron, 4 gb of ram, a 4 GB SSD and 32 GB of SD memory. It is not a powerhouse by any means but it only weighs about 2 pounds, runs about 7 hours on the extended battery and is already paid for :) It has win xp home on it now but it will soon either have Linux mint or xp pro.

I would like to use this to do audio recording in my classes - voice only, as well as using a webcam to do spot checks to see what is going on in the class when my back is turned.

I would like to be able to connect 3-4 microphones to it. Two will be cabled, placed near the front two corners and the others will be wireless and are connected to the amplifier that powers the main speakers in the classroom - I will put it in the back. As I said, I know it is not a powerhouse but would it be able to do what I want? Would a 4 channel usb mixer do the trick?
