M-Audio vs Edirol?

trying to narrow down this laptop soundcard based on all the stuff i've read around here;

any strong opinions on the M-Audio stuff (quattro, audiophile USB, etc) vs Edirol?

these are all in my price range, and quite portable, so it's coming down to performance and reputation for stability i guess...

PC-based, and i'd like midi capability....

Had the UA-5, haven't tied the rest. I really liked the unit. I would definatly recommend it, but I am not sure I would recommend it over the M-audio, I have the 1010 now and it is great so I would try and test them out.

unfortunately i'm limited to external cards that i can use with my laptop; the 1010 isn't an option, nor are lots of other ones i could use with a desktop! so the m-audio stuff i'd be considering would be more like the audiophile or the quattro.

but it's good to hear a positive review of the UA-5.

still debating going small like that or going with something a bit bigger like the laptop layla, though it kind of seems like it makes the laptop not so portable if you're lugging around a rack also!
