Line in to PC problems

I record to HD via uLogic AV using my std sound card (for now). Trouble is, I can only "tickle the meter" through the mic in which relegates me to mono, which sucks for mixdown and stereo guitar tracks. It has a std 1/8" input - that should be stereo, right? When I connect from my mixer from the rec out RCAs or the Main outs, I get no signal at the input reagardless of my mixer output settings. I have checked my control panel settings for sound card and checked the Line In box so that prolly isn't it. Any other ideas?
 
This is obvious, but if your sound card has both Line-in and mic-in inputs, you should be using the line-ins. They will always sound better.
 
yeah, that's the intention...the output of my mixer (std samick live mixer) at the main outs or the rec outs are line level, no? How about the headphone out?
