Lap Top & Sound card

All this time I have been using many sequences (Roland, Yamaha etc..) for live performing and now I want to bring all my files to a lap top where I could use a little digital audio as well for harmony. Hoping to buy P 4 lap top and want sound advice on sound card. If good sound cards are not available for lap tops I do not mind going for an External. Please advice me on this.
 
Yeah, Firewire is the way to go. Simply because it seems more people have better success using it. I personally use the MOTU Firewire stuff on my laptop and really love it.

BUT

If youre doing MIDI sequencing use USB, there are lots of USB stuff to get out there. I like both the MOTU and the Midiman USB MIDI gear, I use both myself.
