Labtop Recording Soundcards Suggestions

For those who use labtops for recording, what kind of audio card do you use? Do you use USB or PCI connections? Also, I've heard that the USB cards can't handle much and can lag if you try to record for too long....is this true? In essence, I'm looking for labtop pro soundcard suggestion. Pros and cons of different kinds would be great.

A modern laptop will have options for USB, FIREWIRE or PCMCIA sound cards. I believe FIREWIRE and PCMCIA are pretty good , however, there aren't many PCMCIA cards on the market, so FIREWIRE may be the best choice for multitracking. However, if you are just recording one or two tracks at a time, USB should be fine. I don't think there are any USB 2.0 soundcards available, but a USB 2.0 card should work well.

The Echo Mona laptop is the way to go. Mic preamps, guitar inputs, nice unit.

You can get the regular PCI version, then get the laptop adapter, and use the same rackmount box for both the laptop and desktop.

I think it's a really nice system.
