I am building a DAW desktop with 64 bit Windows 7 professional.
It is an old system with some old updates.
Asus M5A97 with an AMD FX- 8320 with 8 GB Ram
1 TB Sata drive and a ATI graphics card
I would like to run Reaper and purchase a Focusrite 2i4
Will this system run my dream machine?
Thanks

I have a similar build (6 core CPU and smaller SSD), using Ableton and sometimes Reaper. I average about 20 tracks and use all sorts of plugins running Win10. I use a Tascam US-1800 (using Reaper on a lesser computer, I have tracked 16 tracks at once, not mixing, just tracking). I run nothing else on this computer.

To date, I have had no issues. The CPU seems to do just fine and if the CPU does spike because of Plugins, I either "Freeze Tracks" or consolidate plugins with Sends (where I route many tracks to use the sample effects, like reverb).

You should be fine with that set up from my experience.

I'd consider upgrading to 16GB if you have the slots, especially if you can do it economically by just adding another 8GB. That will generate a little more heat, so between the RAM, video card and spinning 1TB drive, you might have that fan running all the time, so think about placement to mitigate that in your recording, assuming you're not lucky enough to have a separate recording space.
