hiss on recording, soundcard?

hay,
ive been doing home recordings for a while now and am always unhappy because everytime i record ..i get a hiss that isnt from the mixer or mic.
it has to be coming from the sound card..
even if i dont have anything pluged into the soundcard its ground noise is stil around -53db..
my friends all have NO hiss wat so ever, would it just be my sound card?..or the fact that my computer is pretty loud because of alot of fans??

PLEASE HELP :(
 
What soundcard are you using???

An SBLive will always give about a -50something noise floor no matter what (it's just a crappy card....)
