I have a Fostex VF160EX. I recently broke the 'stop' button by accidentally pushing it too hard (the buttons become difficult to engage over time without cleaning, common problem with this unit) and it broke off into the hole making the unit virtually unusable. I ordered a replacement button assembly for cheap and I found this Fostex teardown instruction blog: MOONROOM Recording: Fostex VF160 - Teardown Instructable While the blog will be very helpful, I can't tell if the button assembly is easily removed from the chassis below it with the pics provided. Does any have any similar experience or ideas? It's pretty expensive to mail it off and have it repaired so I'm trying to avoid that. The reason I don't just scrap it is because it has years of unfinished recordings that I want to salvage before I move on to a DAW or better unit.
