why is my sound card not compatible with windows media players,vls etc....it only works as a line output

Not sure what you are asking. In your Windows audio devices settings, you have to select the Scarlett as the sound device.

i have already done that but it only works when am using a DAW

Then you didn't change the settings in your Windows device settings, or it reverted back to the onboard soundcard.

i changed it to default...i don't know if its because it appeared as an output device
