External HDD run options. Dynamic? MBR?

what is this?

I'm mainly curious as to what dynamic and MBR mean; I just finished formatting a new external drive for win7 and as I was right clicking to select the proper functions to facilitate the install I noticed the options to set the drive as dynamic or MBR. Any idea as to which is better, if either is, or should I just let the sleeping dog (properly functioning external HDD) lay and forget about these advanced options?

Makes me look forward to my intro IT classes in the fall... :facepalm: Thanks in advance for any insight!

You have Dynamic and Basic disks.
Dynamic allow you to reconfigure partitions without having to reformat...along with other advanced features. With Basic, if you need to change your partitions, you would have to reformat, which means wiping the disk.

I have my OS drive, and that's set as Basic, since it's a single partition.
My Audio/Data drives I make Dynamic, since I often partition then in two...but if I choose to change the partition sizes, I can do it without wiping the data off them.

MBR = Master Boot Record.
Don't worry about making an MBR disk for an external drive.
