is ESS AudioDrive playback (220) a good soundcard?

i'm not sure if thats even the name of my sound card but i cant find the name in the owners manual and when i adjust my comps sound levels it says that the device used is ESS AudioDrive playback(220) and the device used for recording is ESS AudioDrive Record (220)
do yall know if thats a good sound card
or even a sound card at all
i know i have one
because i listen to wav's midi's and real audio and it sounds pretty decent
but i'm not sure
please help

Well. No, ESS is not a good sound card. ESS is a chipset used by many companies to get a 'sound'. You would be beter off taking that thing out, or if it's hardwired to your motherboard, disable it in BIOS. Creative labs make some decent stuff. The Ensonic, or SBlive! would be a step above the ESS as far as noise floor goes.

The question is, good for what? What do you want to do?
