echo recording systems vs. bare card?

Could someone familiar with the echo line please help me?

With the echo line (e.g. layla, gina) it seems you can either buy the card with the breakout box OR you can spring for the recording system in which you get the card and a nifty-looking rack-mountable piece of hardware.

My question is what does the system give you that is not accomplished by merely the breakout box? AND Is the additional tool work the extra money?

Thanks,

Hi Drew, I have Darla 24, the baby sister of the
others. It has a breakout box.

I dont know exactly about the other models, so
if I am wrong I apologize, but I believe the
shing rackmount stuff they have is just a bigger
breakout box, with things like Midi, more inputs,
ditigal i/o that wouldnt fit on the smaller
breakout box.

The Motorola chip on the Darla24 is on the PCI
slot card, not in the breakout box, I believe.
Therefore, the breakout box does nothing, accept
provide inputs and outputs. Sorry if I am
wrong, but I THINK I am right! David

hi again,
check out the website http://www.echoaudio.com

I did, layla's box looks like Darlas on the front
with a headphone jack.

Ginas as plain and sleek rack mount,
Mona looks like star trek cool rack. Mona has
pre amps, the rest have digital i/o from a variety
of sources (RCA, ADAT, etc).

They have a nice chart comparing all four. David
