ear test 320kpbs vs 128kpbs

I did, too, though I'm not sure what the test proves. Were these clips CBR or VBR? The clips themselves have limited dynamic range and sound that occupies a relatively limited part of the audible spectrum. And, of course, the idea of using any kind of lossy compression for mixing is not very good.

I got the first test right, and all three right on the loudness test.
Where do we pick our prize?

Funny that more people picked the wrong one on the first test. I think that probably comes from too much time on their iPods....they learned to prefer the crushed sound with the artifacts. :D

I got it right, listening to the file with ear bugs like you would with a player, but I have to admit that it took me a few listens to pick it, the music used did not help, if it was a little more complex or classical it may have been easier to pick. Anyway I was surprised how close it was.

I actually never rip a 128 mp3, the lowest I would do is a 256.

Alan.

No problem. At the risk of sounding like an audiophool, the 320kbps version was far more "open" and "airy" while the 128kbps sound muffled to me,
