Drum track skips

Hi. I'm using Guitar Tracks Pro III and I don't know jack.

My PC has a 2 gig CPU, I have 512 m for RAM, and about 75 gigs of free space left over on my hard drive. I'm using the M-Audio Firewire Solo soundcard.

I did a drum track and it skips all throughout like crazy. 1) What adjustments do I have to do? 2) Can I save the take after whatever adjustments I'll have done or will I have to re-record it? 3) Will those adjumstments have to shift once I start working on the other tracks (vox, guitars, bass, keys, etc).

Thank you.

More info please -- when you saw you 'did a drum track' do you mean you mic'd drums and played to a click? Recorded a machine track? Set up trigger notes to fire a midi track?

I suspect it's pure and simple latency that you're experiencing, and that can be cured by going into your soundcard software and setting a longer buffer. This has it's limits -- go too far and you throw off the timing you need to do the overdubs...
