The dreaded Swap File.

I'm curious, have any of you ever tried running your computer, or recording, with the swap file disabled? I recently upgraded to 256MB of RAM, and wondered if I might be able to get away with not using the swap file.

So, have any of you tried this? What were your results?

Also, if that's not such a good idea - what's a recommended setting when you have 256MB of RAM? Currently, I have the file locked at 320MB.

The suggested size of your swap file is 2.5 times your system memory. Min and Max should be the same. You will see little or no boost in performance though. The main things that boost performance are Processor Speed and Hard Drive Speed. THere are other things but these are the main 2.

Hi Eurythmic

For 256 MB of RAM, set the file to permanent 256 MB, instead of 320.

Add this line in system.ini:

[386Enh] (this section exists)

ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1

Don't laugh, it works!

Don't disable the File. No help at all, may slow down the 'puter.
