DirectX Hiding in the bowels of My Drive

In order to run Cakewalk AudioFX2 the install CD said I needed to have DirectX, which I downloaded (more than once from Microsoft)and DirectShow, which installed from the CD.
So - where the hell is DirectX? When I look for it the only thing in the DirectX folder is a diagnostic, which assures me all is fine. Cakewalk also has no way to open it.
Computer is IBM 450/PIII/128 Ram/10GB - I'll be installing Digi001 as soon as I et up the nerve to take the casing off the drive ...

DirectX is comprised of a bunch of individual components. You won't find a "DirectX.exe" file, or anything simple like that.
