Ok it's time to upgrade and I'm looking into getting the digi 002. Only thing is it has 8 ins now i know with the firewire it will send upto 36 tracks simultaneously to the pc but what do i need to have to be able to record more than 8 tracks simultaneously. up until no i've use an alesis mixer with the alesis hd24 and then transferred everything to my comp to mix using pro tools le but i would rather have the control surface to better mix things. any suggestions would be great.

To get more than 8 inputs, you need to go through either the S/PDIF and/or ADAT inputs on the 002. The S/PDIF will get you two more and the ADAT will get you eight; for a total up up to 18 simultaneous. That's where it tops out. The 32-tracks are the limit on the internal digital mixer it PT LE. To use them, look for interfaces with A/D converters that ouput either S/PDIF or ADAT in the number of channels you need.
