Converting 24 Bit CD-R to 16 Bit CD-R

I was presented a CD-R with some music on it that tracks okay in my CD player but generates no sound. I suppose it was recorded at 24 bits instead of 16 bits. How can I convert the music on this disc to a newly burned disc at 16 bit? I have Cubase and Adaptec burning software.

1. Open each file in Cubase and locate an option for changing bit depth and sample rate. Just set the new bit depth to 16 bits and the sample rate to 44.1kHz.
2. Toss EZ CD creator in the bin
3. Get any other CD burning program and burn your new 16bit/44.1kHz files to a CD.

Voila, If your CD player can handle CD-R you will be able to play the CD.

If you just want to listen to the files, open them in Cubase and press play:)

Standard Audio CD's are 16 bit only. I believe there are some proprietary formats that support 24 bit, but chances are they won't play (or even track) in your CD player. If it's an audio CD and it won't play in any CD player, chances are that the CD is screwed up. :(

Some CD-R aren't friendly with audio CD players. Or it could be a data CD, pop it into the computer and find out. If its 24 bit its likely in wav format on a data CD.
