Connecting two R16 Zoom Recorders

Hi There;

I have a question for hooking up 2 R16 Zoom Recorders, I hook the 2 recorders together one is the master and the other is the slave. I have the speakers hook up to the master, but I can't hear any audio from the other recorder that I have hooked up. I want to be able to record up to 16 tracks at once. If there any way of doing this?
 
The only thing hooking them up does is make the record/stop/play/ff/rw buttons sync up, otherwise they're still separate. Basically, you end up with 8 tracks on each one that sync up if you put them in a DAW later.
