Computer Performance Advice Please?

If you start looking at mac I would highly suggest checking craigslist/ebay for a used mac mini. You can do the same upgrades and have a great machine at a low cost.

True enough.
I generally don't recommend c2d mac minis because some of them are being left behind (I think I told you about this?).
Having said that, my da runs an old c2d mac mini from ebay...£300 I think..
He's stranded on Lion I think, but what does he care?
It's more than adequate for his needs.

Yeah you're dead on there, but if you're looking for a dedicated DAW setup it's no loss if you can't upgrade to the latest OS.

I agree. Once one starts viewing computers as tools, a lack in modernity seems much less important than consistent performance within what it has to offer. I have electric drills of varying quality, some of which are tooled up with one bit for one certain task. Only my big Makita 'do it all' machine gets to use everything.

If you are still experiencing slow speed, try to do the same on different HDD and see how it works then.

Hope it helps!
