I have an analog mixer, and record with Adats,
I want to do non-destructive editing, mixdowns, mastering and etc. on the new computer I just bought. Can anyone
tell me the best low cost solution to get me in the
21st century?

I'd start with Wavelab 3, Cooledit or Soundforge as it will introduce you to HD editing and mastering. If you want to go further then look at one of the various multitrackers, Cubase, Cakewalk, Cooledit, N-Tracks. Do a search on these if you want to know more about them.

cheers
