I use my computer to mix down to using a SB Live! Value card (older card) from a Tascam 688 8-track cassette recorder. My problem is that my levels can never get very high without distorting, especially low end bass. All my song end up being much quieter than they should be. I have no problem with distortion AT ALL playing back on my 688. Could it be the speakers? Or the card? Or both? I use old JVC stereo speakers (without a power amp). I listen to other recordings (MP3s from ripped CDs), and they are louder but not distorted. What do I do?
