I have a strange problem on my Tascam Porta02 which I salvaged, seemed to be in working condition once I found a compatible power supply what was missing.
The problem is: I set up my mikes (one for each input) and monitor the sound in the headphones. It sounds decent, so I enable one of the inputs (take it out of safe mode) and start recording. Immediately the sound changes in the headphones, it becomes louder and extremely sibilant, as if someone turned up the treble 1000%, almost painful. The recording comes out normal when played back, but it is impossible to know what I'm recording because the monitoring is so distorted. Strangely, if I enable both tracks, the monitored sound while recording seems normal. Enabling only either track by itself however causes the problem.
I'll keep troubleshooting, but wondered if anyone else has encountered this problem and knows what is happening.
