Tascam 424 mkiii hum / hiss

Hey everyone,



I have had a Tascam 424 mkiii for a long time now but I could never really use it as there always is a pretty loud hum/ hiss when I play back what I just recorded. When monitoring during recording everything still sounds fine.
Now I cleaned the erase head, record/play head, capstan, and pinch roller. I tried again but nothing changed...

Any idea what I could do to solve this problem?
 
it probably needs recapped, or its too near a source of electro magnetic noise and you are recording that in addition to your signal.

Well, just don't forget that tape needed high meter levels to stay above the noise. There should be no hum. Sometimes, a common hum noise is from a bad solder, or the input jack was bumped, etc..
