tascam 388 transport shorted out (i think)

I recently bought a tascam 388 and it was seemingly in full working order. I recorded some demos and used it for about a month before the transport display started acting strange, and then shorted out completely.

Now there is no digital transport display, and the transport buttons don't work at all.

Otherwise though, the thing appears to be powered on. my hunch is the problem is local to the transport. Even the noise reduction button lights are working, next to the transport controls.

Has anyone else had issues like this? Any advice on how to go about getting this repaired, or if it's worth it?

Sounds like some kind of logic failure. The power supply is often the first thing to check with that kind of thing.

Not real familiar with it, but the first thing I'd do is open it up and check all the fuses

Not just visually, but pull them all and check on a meter.

Check power supply is outputting proper DC voltages and AC voltage should be at or very near zero on all DC power rails.

Then exercise connections to the transport control module.
