Syncon 24-track prototype on ebay

Nice looking machine. I don't see a capstan.

The Brenell page refers to it as "a new, technically advanced, state of the art, micro-processor controlled capstan-less drive, 2", 24-track studio mastering deck in which the spool motors did all the work."

Like the Stephens machines.

Pretty slick.

Then you had the Ampex ATR-100 series with no pinch roller.

I was actually the one selling it. It has sold now, but the gentleman who bought it is actually an engineer who plans on restoring it and then (I presume) selling it.

Nice. I think my main worry is whether the system software in the EPROMs is still intact. If not, someone is going to have to write a replacement because I'd be surprised if the source code or other binary copies still exist.
