Sony TC 366 dissembly question

I have a Sony TC 366 and I am trying to take the front (top) off so I can see what is wrong with the Function Selector which is not working. I have removed all the necessary screws and knobs and it is lose and ready to lift up except I cannot lift it through the Inst Stop lever control slot. Does the steel knob of the control screw off? I have gently tried to turn it with pliers but I am afraid it is one piece and will strip it.

It's looks like a press fit button cap so try prying it up with a wide bladed screwdriver.

Though I've never taken mine apart so I'm not sure if that will solve your issue of opening it up?
