question about dolby noise reduction

To use this feature correctly, do you have to have dolby NR turned on while recording and then also turned on while mixing/playback? Or do you only turn it on for the playback/mixing?

I recorded a song with 8 tracks and haven't kept score on which tracks I used the NR and on which I didn't. I think I used it on a few tracks.
What should I do in this case since you can't specifically pick a single track for noise reduction (only 1-4 and 5-8).

Maybe I'll mix the song both with NR on and off and see which one sounds nicer.
 
Ideally, you should use noise reduction while recording, AND playing back.

Unless of course you like the sound of ENCODED tracks playing back raw, or raw tracks playing back decoded. Up to you.
