Otari MX5050 BII Need help. Not recording (or erasing on ch. 2)

Anybody know this machine? Not sure where to look first. It can reproduce on ch. 2, but when I put it into record, it doesn't erase or record on that channel. Just plays back what was on the tape already. Record light is on but not recording or erasing previous material.

    Ch. 1 is fine.

Seems like it could be a relay but I replaced the Omron relays (one of the common maintenance issues) with the sealed ones about 5 years ago, and it's been fine until then.

    ???

I think these are the head amp schematics? This thing is complicated.

That's actually the controller board for the capstan motor.

There's a good scan of the channel card on page 151 of this:

...but it is complicated. My immediate inclination would still be to suspect Relay 301 because that's the only bit which I can immediately see that's common to the record and erase head. Of course, it's also possible that the relay isn't getting the signal to switch over for some reason.

    Okay,

Thanks. That helps. It's somewhere to start. Easy enough to swap that part out and eliminate it as a possibility.
