Otari MX-5050 EQ -- IEC or NAB Equalization?

Is the Otari MX-5050 8 track 1/2" recorder set to use IEC equalization, or NAB equalization??

(Because the cal tape I have is an IEC tape...............just wondering if I should sell it and get a different one or not........or does it matter?)

The MKII and MKIII 8-tracks are IEC.

2-track models can be either or both. Most 2-track models destined for North America are NAB, but some have a NAB/IEC switch on the back. No Otari 8-track that I've ever seen has a switch and all have been IEC.

I'm only 99% certain though because there are nearly as many MX5050 variations as there are psychopaths in the cave. But odds are it’s going to be IEC unless someone has modified it.

Yeah.........the whereabouts of this machine are nearly a mystery to me.

The fella I bought it from had bought it off some guy on ebay. It didn't come w/ a power chord, and he never even bothered to get one, so it sat there until i traded my Fostex for his, and got it fixed up...........

NO CLUE what this thing's been through before it got to the previous owner, but it works great now. IEC it is. i hope.
