MX 80 Inputs

I am looking at a Tascam MX 80 mic/line mixer

Are the line inputs on the Tascam MX80 the RECEIVE RCA plugs?
The mic inputs are kinda obvious (XLR's).
If I route line inputs to the receive jacks, do all of the front panel functions apply??

Yes and no.

YES: The RCV (1-8) RCA jacks receive line level signals, as part of the ACCESS-SND>RCV pair of patch points, which should normally be jumpered together when not in use.

NO: The ACCESS-SND patch point is configured after the mic preamp stage. By running an external line level signal directly into the RCV (RCA) jack, you're effectively bypassing the XLR input, TRIM, OL, Phase, & ATT. Gain and Pan are the only front panel controls that are active/inline.

Running line level signals directly into the RCV RCA patch points is fine, and the MX-80 may serve as a simple 8x2 line level mixer this way.

When considering instrument cables, and mics with 1/4" plugs, I often use a 1/4"(F)-to-XLR(M) adapter, and that enables you to use 1/4" plug line or mic sources, while keeping the XLR input, preamp & all those other goodies in the signal chain.

I think that's the end of my post.  ;)
