help on alignment and calibration on a fostex r8

hi people i have a fostex r8 and i want to calibrate it i don't have any test tape. i have blank 7inch reel tape of ampex. i want to know what tools i will need to calibrate and align the record and playback head and reproduce and record electronics?

i have a service Manuel and schematics step by step but ive never done this before and i don't have money to get it done by a pro and i want to learn how to do it.

Also, since you have the service manual, - read it , it should have equipment needed listed somewhere.

never tried any sort of alignment or calibration but apparently aligning a two head machine like the R8 is much more difficult and time consuming than a three head machine. Technicians in my area charge extra for servicing two head machines.

If you are just starting out, probably start with a 3 head deck first.
