Budget Calibration and Reference Tape?

(I was going to put this as a reply to the DIY Calibration sticky thread, but I thought this might precipitate a discussion that would clog-up that thread; but moderators, feel free to move this as you see fit).

I am interested in establishing a baseline for my deck's operation, and making some test or reference tapes on it that I can refer to later.

I will be getting my deck back from a pro shop, and since this will presumably be the best it will be for a while, I was thinking I should make a reference tape.

The purpose of the tape would be that I could make adjustments down the line. A set of pro alignment/calibration tapes is not in the budget now.

Has anyone ever done this?

I was thinking of recording some tones at different frequencies so I could check levels and equalization, etc., at later dates.
