You guys were very helpful. Success with bringing the machine back 'mechanically' alive with NEW BASF tape, New Pinch Roller, New Belt.
EVERYTHING repeatedly cleaned thouroghly with proper head cleaner etc.
Looked like a home run, until I plugged it in and tried to multi-track. Took/Stripped out the #2 DBX Units to troubleshoot a strange buz/hum. I tried one input/output at a time. NO DBX. With everything disconnected except channel ONE output running into a channel in a mixer. Stopped dead in the water with an AC type HUM/Buz. Can't figure it out.... it records and plays back at extremely low levels with lots of noise.
Maybe I accidentally left a wire disconnected? But I doubt it. The obvious harness/connector that powers the push button panel is plugged in solid.
Used it back in 1998-2004 - It was in storage for a few years in climate controlled area.
Demagnetizing the heads? Maybe, but with NO tape threaded, as soon as its turned on: HUM/Buz ...argch!!
Its mint, but it looks like selling it for parts?
