    Tascam 246. Good buy?

Hey y'all, I have a lead on a a 246 for $50, with just one caveat. Its missing all of the knobs... I can tell from the get go that missing the knobs will very annoying, but I feel that $50 is a good price. Is there anywhere that has replacement knobs for one of these?

    Thanks

    Alec

    No... run away fast!

The 246 is a great model, but not in that condition. It sounds like a parts machine that's already been ganked! Either that or someone has taken it apart, couldn't fix it and then subsequently lost the bag of knobs. Tascam did have replacement knobs for those and other machines, but they were already out of certain types and colors five years ago at least. Even if you could find the knobs they would likely cost you more than you'd pay for that 246.

The 246 is IMO the best portastudio ever made. I still have my original I bought new when they came out in the 80's, but... wait for one in great condition. They're out there.

Sadly thats only like half of the knobs... Should I offer him like $25 or $30 for it and if for some reason its a pain to use I could just make its a parts deck?

I gotta agree with Beck. You have to wonder why someone would remove all the knobs..then apparently loose them. But if you are intent on a 246 then it seems $25-30 would not break the bank. Good luck!
