Have you tested with headphones and monitors? First thing is to find out if it's a buss-wide failure or just a speaker wire.
Check that the ASSIGN and/or MONITOR buttons are properly engaged. If they are try pressing them in/out several times while listening to a tone or music. The contacts are prone to failure from corrosion and dust. If you detect intermittent function, static and popping during the above procedure, get some electrical contact cleaner (available at Radio Shack) and spray out the offending button.
