So for the past couple of days I have layed a couple of tracks down (guitar and vocals), I've read the entire Manuel for Reaper and have been using that. It seems to work alright. The tempo changes from time to time and that's a pain in the dirty area. But what I really suck at.. Creating beats. I can jam with the best guitarist (25+ years) old dog here.. But I don't know crap about drums or what sounds best with my music. I use to play a lot of death metal and progression. Now I'm more into the acoustic guitar playing acoustic rock, blues and classical. How does one learn beats LOL, yeah right like one is able to answer that. I guess if you were a drummer it would not be a problem creating these. But for someone who just jams guitar, this crap is difficult.. Any way to make this easier then using FL Studio?

Does anyone have any tips/tricks about creating beats that have seemed to work for them?

Also because I jam guitar I usually play and record the rhythm section first, I then double track that, following that up with vocals, and then follow the vocals up with lead guitar.. And trying to place beats in them is hard..

Is this about right, or am I screwing this all up LOL

I am interested in being able to record my piano playing. I started doing some research but I am really confused and most articles talk about a bunch of stuff that I don't think I really need. I am just wondering what would be the minimum software and hardware I would need to do a good quality recording with my laptop. Also how do I know if my laptop is good enoug to do recording? A lot of things I have read talk like you need a special sound card. What kind of microphones would you recommend for piano? I would also be interested in recording my playing with a singer or a chamber music group. Would it be best to have 1 or 2 other microphones for this? I am not interested in any multitrack recording or editing right now but in the future I might want to try editing my recordings.

So I haven't mentioned in my other threads that I have one of these because personally I hate it...

http://tinyurl.com/yamaha-AW-1600

But while I was going through some old stuff that I recorded I noticed that it has a USB port and I started thinking... Is there a way that I could use the AW-1600 as an audio interface. I borrowed a USB printer cable from a friend (it had the right connections) and plugged it into my laptop that has audacity.... nothing. My wizard install thingy couldn't find the proper software. :(

The only way I could get the AW-1600 to show up on my computer was the use the USB "MASS STORAGE" function on the yamaha.I tried to import the individual tracks from the files into audacity, but only about a 15sec portion of the track would show up.

Am I walking down a dead street here? Or IS there a way that I could use the Yamaha AW-1600 as an audio interface?

Thanks.. sorry about all of the smilies... I'm tired :p

Hey guys,

I play guitar and I want to record a cover album with a couple of mates for the summer holidays with piano, guitar, vocals and possibly drums and bass (recorded individually) I am a complete newbie so all the information I have is from a couple of people from the guitar shop.

I have a couple of questions regarding interfaces:

1. Because I have a very limited budget range (100 bucks AU) I dont have enough money to buy a mixer. Would it be possible to record the guitar piano and vocals by JUST using a computer recording interface (U-control UCA222 BEHRINGER) plugged directly into the computer and still have a decent sound??

2. Is it possible to record drums with the ubove mentioned interface ??

3. If its not possible to record drums, does the sound from a drum machine or a virtual drum sound any good ??

4. Is there anything I really need to know before going ahead with this ??

5. I haven't bought anything yet so If i have the wrong mindset for what equipment i should be getting please tell me !!

Thanks heaps !!

I understand that it comes with a midi library of drum parts but is kind of limited. Can anyone suggest what might be the best midi drum library to get? Of course I'm interested in something that will sound human & natural. I've also thought about getting their Druntracker program and midifying some wav loops to use in Superior. Maybe I'm complicating things--I don't know.
