I haven't been around much. Life is hectic, planning a wedding (June 15th, my nerves my nerves my nerves) and things picking up in the north with the day job, doesn't leave much time for working on all this good stuff.

Anyhoo,

Here is a song i recorded for with my brother and his childhood friend while he was in town for a few days. It is an acoustic version of Lagwagon/Joey Cape's tune "To all my friends" ( I appear on guitars and some back ups and "cheersing" ) There was no real practice of anykind it was just sit in my room and push through it and one other song i am currently editing.

We went through a lot of beer those nights.

This is my first real attempt at trying to capture acoustic instruments :guitar: and vocals in my room. Which, i should have thought out a little better. You can really hear the room in some spots. C'est la Vie.

There is a huge list of things i don't love about it and some guitar parts may need some fixing. Noteably post mixing i could really hear Reapers metronome coming through the earphones into the mix. Huge bummer, so some of my edits might be really in your face and crappy.

P.S. I am sure there are spots that may warrant an opinion of pitch correction or auto-tune. You can share it, but i won't act on it. I am in love with human imperfection. Thanks in advance.

I used a radically new method (for me anyway) to record this track which I think has been fairly successful. Have a listen and let me know what you think, and later I might reveal what it was.

This is my first attempt at recording anything. For some reason it just doesn't sound "right" to me. I think I may have been a little heavy handed with the reverb, but there's something odd sounding about my fiddle is well. Any comments to why it sounds funny to me?

This song came out like a jumped up school yard chant. Ex refers to the fact that I play the E7 shape for the ENTIRE song and the 'something' is that I clearly don't have a clue.

I think my main objective was to get the timing and tracking better, hopefully there's an improvement in those two things at least. The singing is flat as a pancake in some parts, this is a bit harder to remedy. Anyways, I'm keen to hear what you think, I'm just glad this is public now, this tune has been doing my head in. Now it's your turn. :D

This is my first major project I started in 2008 on GBand - imported to logic 2 years later, took a studio rec classes, got kicked out of that before i finished (long story - kinda funny - super shitty though) and now I.m LOST!!!

I re-recorded the whole band by myself sans the lyrics and messed up really bad when I recorded the drums:
Drums - 6 mics - mixer - 2 stereo tracks into the DAW. IDIOT!!!!

Someone have pity on my tortured SOUL!!!! (and ears!) I am utterly lost w this one...

I'm currently mixing the attached tune, and having some problems with mixing and checking the levels, eq etc. Here it is:

I've started a thread about the sound in the 'mixing techniques' forum (called mixing hints - how does my track sound?!)

A chap on this thread kindly suggested I upload my mix here to gain some feedback, and hopefully help on how to mix it better, so I thought I would. From what I hear on my Ipod and computer it's too treble-y, particularly the guitars, but on my home stereo the guitars sound like they haven't got enough treble and sound muffled...so I'm a bit stuck!

Any feedback is welcome, particularly from people with good monitors who can hear it 'naked', as it were, in order to tell me how best to tweak the EQ etc. (Oh...it's my first ever attempt at recording and mixing a song in Ableton, so I'm pretty much still learning!!)
