The VU meter on the board says I'm coming close to clipping yet the input of my daw is saying the signal is only at around -45 dBFS.

Now I really like this mixer and I'd really like to keep it but I'm gonna go ahead and need the output to come up to line level. I keep thinking that I could run the outputs through a preamp but that would suck.

SO, Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be? Has anyone had this problem before? Have any of you had much experience with this mixer by chance?
I'm really frustrated here.... :mad::(

Greetings! This is a repost from the mastering board. I realize I should have posted my question here first since I am a newbie and not quite sure where to ask this question. I could post in the analog forum but I'm not sure if it's appropriate. I'm still feeling the place out.

I am setting up a reel to reel recording studio and I was curious on thoughts about what I should use for the mixdown/master to digitize tracks. I have a two track I was going to use for a possible mix-down unit. However, for getting the songs to a digital source, I have been looking at either the Fostex MR-8 mkII 8-Track Digital Recorder or the TASCAM DP-004 or DP-008.

The idea is that I hate using a computer for recording (I've used them in the past) and so I'd like to keep it at the very end of the chain. I figure I could use the Fostex or the Tascam for my mixdown/master because I can do simple things like adjust levels and such out of the box, get the songs on a flash drive, sd card, etc and directly move the songs to the computer for any MINUTE adjustment and burning the songs to a cd. I thought either of these machines would be good for that. Also, I don't want a multi-track with a built-in burner or hd system. The memory source needs to be removable.

So what do any of you think? I'm open to ideas and I'm not really set on either machine. However, I am pretty much set on the process i explained. I was originally going to go with the Fostex but I hear those Tascams are VERY nice products. I should suppose it could handle the job I am asking it to do. It just seemed like it was meant for demos and song ideas and my be difficult to use for what I want... or maybe I just like surfing faders?

Thanks to anyone who dignifies this with a response and apologies to the mastering guys. No hard feelings, I hope. Haha!

I just moved into a house with 5 of my friends, everyone plays music (there are 2 bands that live here) and I brought all my recording gear and set up a control room and a spare living room. I'm just wondering what would be the best way to run cables through the entire house...

My idea-Get PVC pipes and run them along the inside perimeter of the house, Make cables of correct lengths to run from all rooms to the control room, and obviously put these cables in the PVC pipes...so they don't get stepped on/fucked with/tangled....What do you think? Any better ideas?

I also need monitoring suggestions. Anyone know of any good (cheap hopefully) headphone distribution systems? It would need to be able to reach any point in the house.

Thanks guys, any input is appreciated.

Hey guys, I'm not new to here, just don't post much. I'm a young engineer, going to a startup program at the local college. Most of what I've learned is from the internet, but I had a gig fall in my lap about a month ago and I've been running with it ever since.

I'm the "music director" of a cafe here in Southeast Texas. It's an 150 person cafe/venue thats been in place for around 13 years. We have a live pa system with an A&H MixWizard 16:2 w/ fx, rackryder graphic eq, dbxAFS224 Feedback suppressor, crown amps, jbl mains, a monitor run, a 12 channel snake, 2xsm58s, 2xpg81s, several pg-series drum and vocal mics, D112, and for recording we we have an Aardvark Aark24, 8x8 pci-card interface, taking the direct-outs and mixing to an aux off the A&H.

Since I've been here I've been doing inventory and figuring the place out. Brought in another 58, snagged another Aark24 off ebay for $50, found a RNC, ran a second monitor run, it's been slow getting up. We're doing a fundraiser for the cafe to raise money and I'm getting my tuition refund so I'M LOOKING TO INVEST :D.

With the second interface I have a possible total of 20 simultaneous if I use the s/pdif inputs? 8IO + 2s/pdif x 2 = 20?

If so, I need another snake, mixing board, and effects units to replace the ones on the A&H (live purposes only). Any suggestions?

I'm wanting to either buy 4-6 better dynamics, or a couple dynamics and a really nice condensor. I was thinking 214, 414, Neuma.... ok, quality vs. quantity?

A partner and I are in the midst of putting together a CD of our stuff, and recording is being done strictly via the net (we live over 200 miles apart)... He ftp's me guitar tracks, I record drums and send em back, etc. etc.

It's coming along pretty well, but we are listening to some of the stuff and wanting hear a meaty B3 punch.

Since neither of us play keys, we've tried to enlist the help of local friends & acquaintances, but either end up with "skating rink" sounds or 'hey sounds great, count me in!' and then we never hear another word. :spank:

Hard to describe the sounds we are making as any one genre... He's influenced by Steve Morse, Ritchie Blackmore, Carlos Santana, and I count drummers like Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Rod Morgenstein etc. as my influences.

Our music does have some fun little passages thrown in here and there ;)

Not a paying gig, but I have no problems with helping out with anything you might want live drums recorded on, if that is something you're needing. You will also receive due credit in the CD notes.

If interested, shoot me a note and I can get you some rough, but solid mp3 mixes for you to have a listen to.

Thanks in advance :)

I just wanted to say I've had a complete blast on here over the years, a change of career and yet another move sees me leaving my 3rd home built studio behind. Lack of room in the new place, time and enthusiasm sees me bowing out of the recording thing at 41 (although I look a lot older thanks to some of the bands I've met along the way)

I'd like to name some names but most of you who know me know already my mind is shot to hell with the drink, so to that woman with the shed and the whip, him with the attitude and 100 aliases in Leeds and that twat with the drumkit and the attitude to the new guys and ALL the great people sandwiched in between, this has been a total blast. I wish each and every one of you all the very best for the future. You have all influenced my life much more than I can ever let you know with a couple of paragraphs on a website.

Keep them in line, True....and noisedud (sp intentional)...keep them guessing brother

Hello, I have a quick question about a amp that I need.

I currently have a behringer pmp5000 mixer that I use to practice with my band.

I just bought 2 Behringer Eurolive VS1220F Stage Monitor.

I want to use them as monitors but I was told that I need an AMP for them to work, I don't want to spend a lot of money on the amp. I was looking for something bet $100 - $150.

First question, any recomendations?

My second question is, I was lloking at the amp's pictures and the out they use is that round cable (like powered) connection but the monitors that I bought come with 1/4 input (like the ones in the guitar) is there a converter or am I missing something here?

Thanks a lot for the help!

:D
