What I got so far in my rack...

LOL, someone gave me some neg rep. Probably a mistake.

Someone said that API is about the best you can do for preamps. I'm going to get another here shortly. The goal is to have 10 channels for recording drums.
 
I think it's good to have some variety when it comes to preamps, and gear in general. So if you really love the API preamps, then for sure get more. But also consider getting some other varieties as well. Like take a look at the Neve Portico and Great River preamps.

I own a DAV Electronics BG-1 which I love. They make a four channel version of it that I'm sure sounds just as good.

you could do a glynn johns set up with four mics and api and get an awesome drum sound provided you have a good drummer, a good room and good mics.
are you recording heavy rock or metal? if not, that might get you where you want to be with your drum sound.

I'm just getting started, so it's hard for me to decide what to get. Once I learn more and get a chance to play around, I'm sure I'll be expanding.
 
I'm with sonicalbert on this one, you can't go wrong with the api's, but it is nice to have something a little different to change it up some.

i hope to have a 3124 someday soon!

API's are pretty great preamps. After you get your second, I'd suggest looking for a cleaner pre for your OH's- that would give you 10 channels. Get some great mics and converters, and you should be covered for tracking.

Porn companies pay me to help with promotion. I always thought about starting my own, but I like doing music so much. A friend of mine use to work at United Western Studios when it was owned by Bill Putman, so he is teaching me a lot.

honestly, i'd really like to get into acting. i mean.....no need for detail, but i think i could pull it off (in other words, i've gotten lots of good response on the subject, and i think i have the mindset for it).

anyway....jeesh talk about hijacking a thread haha
